Description
President Theodore Roosevelt is quoted as saying that Chautauqua was "America, at its best". A free program on the legendary Gladstone Chautauqua, "Acres of Diamonds", will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of the Oregon Territory. Program presenter Kim Huey, Vice President and Historian of the Gladstone Historical Society, will present an illustrated history of the Gladstone Chautauqua, the third largest "permanent" Chautauqua in the U.S., where thousands of Oregonians camped and enjoyed the 4 E's (Education, Evangelism, Exercise, and Entertainment) each summer from 1894-1927, near the of the Chautauqua Movement's golden age.
