SUMMARY:Clackamas Cove Triathalon
DESCRIPTION:The Clackamas Cove Triathlon will follow all the standard distances for Sprint and Olympic Triathlons\, which are:\n\n\n\nSprint\n\n- Swim: 1/2 mile\, or 800 meters.\n\n- Bike: 12 miles\n\n- Run: 3.1 miles\, to 5 kilometers\n\n\n\nOlympic\n\n- Swim: 1500 meters*\n\n- Bike: 24 miles\n\n- Run: 6.2 miles\, or 10 kilometers\n\n\n\nDistances are approximate because of the natural features of the water course \n\n\n\n\n\nSwim\n\nThe Cove is an old rock quarry\, 20-50' deep\, and fed by the Clackamas River\, except at high tide (yes\, rivers have tides). At 6:45 am\, the conditions will be right for swimmers to round the cove\, then swim out into the Clackamas River through a natural spillway. The Clackamas River will carry you downriver to the entry to Transition 1: the boat ramp at Clackamette Park.\n\n\n\nBike\n\nClackamas River Road is some of the best cycling in the county. Rolling hills\, recently repaved\, and a mild elevation gain to the turn around\, which makes for a fast return on this out-and-back course.\n\n From the transition area at Clackamette Park\, the bike course catches Clackamas River Road\, following the river for seven miles and through Carver. The Sprint Turnaround is prior to Carver\, 6 miles in.\n\n Past Carver\, the Olympic Course continues up into the only significant hill on the course before it turns left on Springwater for a turnaround on a lonely road in the middle of farmland.\n\n The return is exactly the same\, but faster gently downhill.\n\nThings to mind: Of course there will be plenty of signage and support\, but please remember:\n\n No Drafting. This is not an ITU race.\n\n Be Nice to cars and other racers. All intersections will be controlled to allow racers to pass\, but only a mile or two of the bike course is closed to vehicular traffic.\n\n\n\nRun\n\nThrough downtown Oregon City\, out and back on our beautiful new bridge\, and up the classic stair climb out of the downtown and on to the bluff. Really\, who else has a stair climb? We're super duper excited !\n\n\n\nStart Time\n\n The event will start in waves\, beginning at 7:30 am at the Cove. There will be plenty of time to set up your transition are at Clackamette Park before the race begins a few hundred yards away.\n\n Courses will close at the following: Swim 9:15 am\, Bike 11:15 am\, Run 1:00 pm.\n\n More details to be announced .\n\n\n\nPacket Pickup\n\nPacket pickup Friday\, June 21 and Saturday\, June 22: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. First City Cycles in Oregon City.
