DESCRIPTION:PORTLAND\, OR   Project POOCH\, Inc. \, which teaches incarcerated youth to care for and train shelter dogs for adoption\, is hosting a dinner and fundraising gala   POOCH in the Pub 2018   Saturday\, July 14. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. at Montgomery Park (2701 NW Vaughn Street). The gala's theme\, "The Year of the Dog\," celebrates 25 years of Project POOCH pairing shelter dogs with youth in corrections to help young men learn responsibility\, patience\, and compassion by training and preparing shelter dogs for adoption. Highlights of the upcoming gala will include live music by Left Coast Jazz\, remarks by founder Joan Dalton\, and an appearance by the first young man to graduate from the now-legendary program. Event participants will be able to enjoy live music\, a fabulous dinner\, and silent and live auctions. All proceeds will go to benefit Project POOCH. The evening will be emceed by former KGW host and KATU "Pet Expert" Cheryl Hansen. Project POOCH is offering sponsorships\, table purchases\, tickets\, full-page advertisements in the gala program\, and more. The event's confirmed and expanding list of corporate and organizational sponsors and all auction items can be viewed at POOCH in the Pub. Project POOCH was founded in 1993 by Joan Dalton while she was vice principal at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility's high school. What started with one dog and one youth has grown through the years into a program that has benefited hundreds of dogs\, young men\, and families. Commented Dalton\, "Project POOCH is entirely donor-supported. POOCH in the Pub brings together valued partners to both acknowledge and renew their commitment to our mission. With their support and the backing of the community\, we provide opportunities for MacLaren youth to develop the skills they need to become responsible\, productive members of society\, while at the same time finding homes for abandoned dogs by training and preparing them for adoption."
