Chamber to Host 1st City Business Walk in June!
We are excited to launch a “business walk” which is designed to make connections with businesses in our community at their place of business. Other chambers of commerce in the Portland Metro area have found this program to provide an excellent opportunity to listen to the business community and identify common themes for action while bringing together resources (training, alternative financing, workforce development), city services and representatives of the business community for specific action plans that assist business growth and development.
Because there are well over 1500 businesses in Oregon City, we can’t possibly visit every one on these two days but our goal is to visit no fewer than 100 each day!
Like other “walks” ours has other purposes, too. It provides businesses an opportunity to connect with elected officials, Chamber leadership, and other business and civic leaders. It is also a great way to say “thank you” to businesses, to network, to connect and assess local economy, all with the goal of strategic economic planning.
The main tools of our OC City Walk are volunteers and a four question survey. Volunteers will spend between 10-15 minutes at each business. For each day of the walk we need a minimum of 20 volunteers for a minimum of 10 teams each day; feel free to volunteer for just one day or both!
The benefit of our business walk goes beyond that day because Chamber staff will then process the survey results and share them with our volunteers, our surveyed businesses, Board of Directors, City Commission and beyond. This allows your Oregon City Chamber and our partners to better understand the business community and be more strategic in promoting a thriving local economy.
Businesses that will be visited will all be notified in advance so they will be expecting our volunteers and have agreed to assist with our survey.
Businesses will be asked four questions:
- How is business?
- On a scale of 1 to 10, would you recommend Oregon City to other businesses? Why?
- What can others do to help your business thrive or to help the business community in general?
- What are your future plans for growth or change?
If you’d like to play a role in this business walk and be part of the effort to help Oregon City businesses thrive, please call Amber at 503-656-1619 or aholveck@oregoncity.org.
